Parts Work gives Free Will to aspects of yourself you can’t otherwise change.
Parts Work is when you consciously go into different aspects of your personality to create harmony.
When different aspects of you are working together you don’t have to fight to create what you want.

Why do Parts Work?
Sometimes our Parts are working together, but often they are at odds. This can cause MANY issues like memory problems, difficulty controlling behavior, dilemmas, stress, anxiety, self-harm, destructive patterns. Pretty much any issue you can think of has its root in the conflict parts of our consciousness. Parts Work is one of the FASTEST ways to resolve these conflicts.
Most of our Consciousness is Subconscious so most of the truth of our Parts is completely Unconscious. Whatever is Unconscious operates on Autopilot. So If you want to change something, you MUST make it conscious.
Bringing the dynamics and truths of these parts to the light, making them conscious, and giving them Freewill; is the Power of Parts Work.
ALSO, the more connection you create internally causes more connection to be created in your experience because our external reality is a reflection of our internal reality.
EXAMPLE: Let’s say you are very lonely. Doing Parts Work with your lonely parts, meeting their needs, resolving their issues and reintegrating them so they aren’t lonely will cause you to manifest more connection and intimacy in your external reality and not feel alone.
What are Parts?
Our Consciousness is not Whole. It’s fragmented. Our Personality is made up of many Sub Personalities otherwise known as Parts or Aspects.
We experience this when we see the different sides of our personality. The most extreme example is someone who is diagnosed with multiple personality disorder. But we all have multiple personalities and each aspect has its own wants, needs, temperament, form and appearance.
Soul Fragmentation is the way we survive in the 3rd dimension. It does this by allowing us to automatically switch into different adaptive strategies depending on the situation.
Parts can be ANY aspect of you because ALL of your being has consciousness.
Examples:
- You can become the Consciousness or Your Anxiety.
- Your Sore Back.
- The Internalized Version of your Mom.
- The part of you that takes over when you are work.
- Any child version of yourself.
- The part of you that stops you from working out.
- The part of you that can’t stop Drinking.
- The part of you that wants to be in a relationship.
- The part of you that doesn’t want to feel Sad.
- ETC.
Each Part Not Only has its own experience and truth but often Parts can Control our ability to feel certain things, remember or forget certain things, behave in certain ways, access different abilities, perceive life differently, they can control other parts internally ETC.
How To Do Parts Work
Parts work is intentionally becoming ONE aspect of your consciousness so you can experience it’s reality and understand it’s truth.
In this Article I clearly lay out how I do parts work.

Setup
Tools needed:
- Computer or phone to record while you talk out loud if you want.
- Smudging tools to clear the energy before.
- Water, Tea, Pillows Blankets. Anything that makes you comfortable.
- Tissues.
- Chairs or pillows to sit on and space to move around
- Buddy or Facilitator and a Journal.
- Silence your Phone, remove distractions and Make sure you have some time to focus (30 min to 2 hrs.)
Set up your space to make Getting into Parts easier. Set up Chairs, pillows, or just spots on the floor. You will move from stop to spot as you switch into different parts.
I strongly recommend moving your body to work with parts. It helps create clear separation.
But if you can’t physically move for each part be VERY intentional and clear about the shifts. You can shift internally as you talk or In a Journal.
If you are journaling or typing, Designate symbols to mark next to lines that are each part.
Examples:
0 A Guide or higher self talking
* Central Perspective asking Questions or talking.
– Part 1 talking.
~ Another Part
To Make the Shifts more intentional:
Whenever I am Entering a part I say: “I choose with my Free Will to Become the part of ME that______.”
Whenever I am Leaving a part I say: “I release myself from any and all parts I’m in and Return to central perspective.”
AT THE VERY END of my session I say. “I release myself from any Parts or Aspects I’m in and Return to central perspective: name, location, date.”
When you go deep in parts you can get a bit lost. That’s why I intentionally come back to my main personality with the name, date, and location.
Central Perspective or Central Personality is your default Conscious Personality.
BEFORE you start, Check your Intention.
Your intention NEEDS to be to Understand and get to Know these parts with Love and Acceptance.
Approach each new part without judgments or preconceptions. Try your best to not assume anything. OFTEN a part will look different on the outside and look and feel completely different when you are IN IT. Then It can change when you step out of it again. Also it can change while you are working with it. Be attuned to the shifts.
Any part you are exploring has a VERY VERY VERY good reason for being the way they are. Even the most painful or scary or mean parts, when You get into them, show you why they were created. There is a VERY GOOD REASON FOR THEM TO EXIST. At their core they have a good intention even if it’s very maladaptive or harmful. You will have IMMENSE compassion for why they are the way they are and how they have been trying to survive.
So Check your intention and Judgments before you attempt to work with a part.
Also Parts aren’t dumb. Talk to them like you would talk to any person or child. The more they sense you respect them and want to get on their level the less resistance they will have to you.
Bring in Help
You can even ask Guides to hold your judgments or help you out. I also like to Invite guides or your higher self to come to facilitate the process. I like to Feel into them for a moment and feel their presence and support. I also do this for CP. You can use this guide to follow along and Ask Questions and help.
Also, If possible, do parts worth with someone Else. DO NOT HAVE THEM TAKE ON YOUR PARTS. Only become your OWN PARTS. Work with someone who can ask questions with compassion and clarity.
Safety
For CP and Parts work. SAFETY IS KEY. Remember that all of this is FREE WILL and can be stopped at any time. I remind myself of this and anyone I’m working with. You do not have to feel or experience anything before you are ready. Every step is fully CONSENSUAL. Only move forward IF you feel safe enough and supported enough to do so.
Be in tune with yourself and others. This causes the most safety. Be willing to adjust and stay checked in.
Grounding and Presence
Proper grounding makes a HUGE difference.
Make sure you won’t be interrupted and you have enough time and don’t feel rushed. Commit to being fully present. Make sure you are not distracted.
Have as much support as possible, a friend, practitioner and/or spirit guides. Also you can feel into the part of you that believes that this is all for your highest good.
I also like to breathe for a moment to ground until I feel safe and secure BEFORE doing CP or parts work. Safety and security is key. I will not move forwards until I feel that settling feeling.
This actually makes it easier to go into triggers later.
RESISTANCE
Parts Work is vital when working with resistance.
Remember Resistance is there for a VERY GOOD REASON. So always look for the VERY GOOD REASON it exists and you will find it much easier to work with.
If you have resistance to feeling emotions is means you are in a protector part that dissociated from the emotions. SO if you get in the vulnerable split of that protector you will access the emotions. BUT often the protectors will resist you accessing that part so you will need to play mind chess to access that. RESPECT AND KINDNESS AND THE DESIRE TO UNDERSTAND IS KEY.
The same goes if you can’t access memories or a perception of a certain situal.
Like say you are in a part that is in denial about something. DO NOT SAY YOU ARE IN DENIAL. Go into the opposite split and the situation will be made clear to that prev part and central perspective.
In general the BEST WAY TO DEAL with Resistance is to DROP DEEPER into the part. Go deep. Go beneath the resistance. MELT INTO the resistance.
PARTS WORK TIPS
- Individual Parts often control whole groups of memories or emotions. They often KEEP those from central perspective. So you can access emotions and memories and perceptions easier when going into a part.
- If you are having trouble accessing a memory look for the parts that may have the memories. I find its when I get into a part that is emotionally expressing.
- If you are in a part that doesn’t experience emotions or have memories go to the opposite split of that part. You will likely find a vulnerable part that has access to the emotions and memories. BUT the protector part may have resistance to you accessing the vulnerable parts so work with that part with respect.
- Protector parts are a whole subject but the best way to work with them is to understand how they are trying to protect other parts and find how you can work with their desires to create a win-win. Sometimes you have to bring them painful awareness. Be gentle and compassionate with that.
- If Protectores are violating other parts’ boundaries then bring in guides to gently work with them while setting boundaries.
- Whenever you work with a new part leave your presence with each part or leave a guide with them before you leave them so they are no longer alone.
- My favorite way to do this is to record each part and talk out loud and go back and forth.
- Allow for time and space to feel the emotional or sensation adjustments.
- Allow Parts to make their own revelations with gentle coaxing and by asking careful questions. Don’t start trying to POINT stuff out to them until you develop trust with them.
- Just bringing consciousness into a part bring revelations to the part due to vibrational entrainment. So you don’t need to force it.
PRESENCE
Parts work is so powerful because you are bringing presence INTO each part.
Just bringing the VIBRATION of love and understanding and the willingness to FEEL WITH the part and being present with the part will cause the Part to entrain with the part. You don’t have to force it.
That vibrational entrainment will EFFORTLESSLY bring the part into self awareness.
Tilting your head down to you chest help drop into sensations.
Imagining sinking into the sensation or feeling like you are sinking into water help with feeling it.
Bring awareness to the sensations in the body help you feel into it.
When people have resistance to emotions, don’t force them. Use the word sensations and have them focus on how they feel in there body.
If they have resistance to noticing their body. Have them focus on the images in their minds or impressions.
I try and get out of the mind and back into the body as much as possible though.PARTS WORK STEPS
Feel Into the Part, Bring Consciousness Into the Part
Pick a spot and When you Sit down Sit Down ONLY as that part.
I say “I choose with my free will to become the Part of me that______.”
Getting into the Part
To begin with only becoming aware of the part without needing it to talk. Get Used to it as if in a foreign Being.
Imagine You are a Method Actor. You are diving into the perspective and becoming that one part of yourself as if it was the totality of you. You are channelling that one part of you and letting it take over your whole body.[1]
LINK TO THIS -> Consider things like:
- ‘what do I feel like?’
- ‘How big or small am I?’
- Do I feel female or male? Or another Gender?
- Human or not human?
- How old do I feel?
- Where do I feel like I am?
- What do I look like?
- How does my body feel in this part?
- What sensations do I feel?
- What part of the body do you feel in?

Communicate as the Part
Now communicate as the Part in whatever way feels best.
Give this aspect as much time and space as it needs to Express as Much as it wants.
Each Part may wish to communicate in different ways:
- Talk to a buddy or facilitator who’s there with you.
- Talk out loud and record it.
- Write in your Journal using marks to indicate which part is talking.
- Teal suggest writing with your left hand to access your subconscious more if it isn’t too distracting.
- Talk internally or let images and sensations come if that feels best.
- Perhaps try drawing or creating art as that part.
- Sing, dance, move or play music as that part.
Questions to Ask
Ask the part any Questions that you think of.
Two questions that you need to remember to ask are how this part feels about the central personality. For example if it were me, I would ask, “how do you feel about Teal”. [1]
Also What is my Current Truth as this part?
Parts always have an opposite Split so Make sure to ask how this part feels towards the part on the opposite or other side of it. Also understand that it can have any type of relationship with the other part. It may hate the other part, love the other part, consider the other part a protector, minimize the other part etc. Any relationship that is possible in the outside world is possible in the inside world. Doing Parts Work in like doing couples and Relationship therapy. Treat each part like an intelligent being that deserves complete respect and Presence.
Possible Questions:
- What do I need to say or what do I need others to hear?
- What do I want Central Perspective to Know?
- Am I aware of other parts? What is their relationship to me?
- Often parts don’t have any awareness of other parts or of the Central Personality.
- What is My opinion about____? Insert any situation or person that may affect this part.
- What does Central Perspective or other parts need to change?
- What do I feel like my name is? Or What would I Like to be called?
- What do I need?
- What do I want to change?
- What is My function?
- What do I want my Function to be?
- What would you be doing instead if you could do anything and why?
These questions can lead to re-experiencing a memory that created the Part and you can go into Teal Swans Completion Process. —>
- When did this start?
- When did things change for me?
- What is the origin of this Parts split?
- Another trick to going back into a memory using parts is to feel into the relationship between the two parts and ask yourself when was the first time I felt this way?
WRAP UP this Part
Work with that part until:
- Like it has said everything it needs and wants to say.
- You Have explored it well and have a good understanding.
- it feels willing to explore other parts.
Stand up from your spot or release yourself from the part. Imagine leaving that part in the chair. I say I release myself from any part I’m in and return to Central Perspective.
Imagine, sense or feel that part of you. Your perspective of it from this “middle point perspective” will often be different than the perspective you had of it when you were inside of it. What does this tell you about yourself?[1]
Move Onto the Next Part
Now move onto the next part. You can go into one you feel inspired but I suggest you go into the opposite split. Parts always have an opposite split.
I like to say, I become the Part of me that is the opposite split of the part I was just in.
Go into this new one the same as you did the other. It takes patience but it is SO worth it.
Let it express as much as it wants.
If you are not so lost in the point of perspective of the part you can question it from the central perspective WHILE also being in the Part. OR have your friend question you. This is why having a friend to facilitate is so valuable so you can fully drop into the part.
Again, the two questions that you need to remember to ask are how this part feels about the central personality. [1]
Wrap up Second Part
When it feels like this second part has said what it wants and needs to say and you’ve explored it so as to have a good understanding of it, you are going to again stand up from the chair. [1]
Look Back at Parts and Reflect
Now, Leave this part as you did the last.
Stand up from your spot or release yourself from the part. Imagine leaving that part in the chair. Say I release myself from any part I’m in and return to Central Perspective.
“Look” back on the parts again. See both of them from your middle perspective.
What new information do you get seeing how they look different?
Continue doing Parts Work Until you get more understanding, resolve conflict, or create integration.
